Nevadans deserve better! Take action today to call on the resignation of Nevada System of Higher Education's Regent Patrick Boylan and Regent Byron Brooks.
Our University Regent system is broken and is not serving our students or our community. Several regents have blatant disregard for the safety of our campuses and have created hostile environments. Recent examples that have come to light include clear violations in representing the constituents they serve, Regent Patrick Boylan and Regent Byron Brooks.
At a public meeting in January, Regent Boylan, who represents a majority minority district said:
“We have black students. We have colored students. White students are invisible… Aren’t we interested in white students? Aren’t we interested in helping them?...Or do we just say , ‘Screw them.’ There’s something racist…” "Who will stand up for the “colorless” students?"
You can listen to the video recording here.
Well Regent Boylan it is far past time for someone to stand up for those communities who have had institutional barriers to access to higher education, not make racist comments to protect the status quo.
As for Regent Byron Brooks--well he takes Boylan's blatant racist comments and raises it to dangerous. Brooks proudly proclaims to be a member of Proud Boys (a group of far right extremists that promote violence and have been labeled as a terrorist organization by the government of Canada). He has petitioned to open-carry his gun to public meetings designed to intimidate the constituents and students he is supposed to serve.
These two regents have created more than distractions; they have demonstrated they are not fit to serve.
We call on both of them to resign.
