PLAN is especially grateful to Norm’s beloved wife, Beverly, with whom he would have celebrated 30 years of marriage on December 21, and his daughter, the inestimable Autumn Harry, for so freely sharing Norm with the rest of us. Norm was involved with historic water settlement issues and Tribal government program management for more than 30 years, receiving numerous awards for his work in the environmental and Tribal leadership fields. There is not an environmental justice issue in Nevada that does not have Norm’s imprint on it; he was a recognized leader in the national environmental justice movement. His voice was critical in stopping the Las Vegas Water Grab, as Norm set the example of Tribal elected leaders working with non-Native organizers in common cause. And just recently, he was working with the Great Basin Water Network on the Lake Powell Pipeline that also poses a serious threat to our precious groundwater. Norm served as Board Chair of Great Basin Mine Watch, and encouraged other Native leaders to get involved in protecting groundwater from insanely destructive gold mining. Norm also dedicated a great deal of time to work with Beverly to uplift the civic engagement of Tribal communities, traveling throughout the state, speaking to other Tribal leaders about the importance of voting to protect the land. The board and staff of PLAN offer our heartfelt condolences to the Harry Family and will remain dedicated to the ideals of justice that Norm lived by. Michele Fiore is Bad for Business: Send a message to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority to remove Michele Fiore from their board.
