Special Session: Last night, the 31st Special Session of the Nevada State Legislature adjourned having made a number of cuts to make up for the $1.2 billion shortfall in the state's budget for 2021. We called on our legislature to be bold, and with the support of all of our PLANistas and member groups, we nearly were able to pass mining tax reform to bring revenue into our state. But this special session is was not the end of the discussion on revenue reform and we will enter the 2021 legislative session stronger and more powerful than before
Rental Assistance Now Available: Today State Treasurer Zach Conine announced that the state's rental assistance progam in response to COVID-19 is accepting applications statewide. The state is providing $30 million in short-term rental assistance with money received as a part of the CARES Act. You can learn more and apply at housing.nv.gov.
Environmental Justice Meeting: This month we will be talking about land management and why we do it in light of the Transform Clark County proposal!
We will have an introduction to this proposal, and then will discuss why profits drive our land management decisions. We will dig into some of the implications of managing our spaces for profit through a discussion on the role of police in protecting property before people. Finally, we will round up the discussion with members of the Nevada Environmental Justice Coalition discussing a positive vision for the future!
Michele Fiore is Bad for Business: Send a message to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority to remove Michele Fiore from their board. Fiore was recently forced to resign from her position as Mayor Pro-tem because of her penchant for making racist comments. Fiore cannot represent Las Vegas on the world stage, it is time to remove her from LVCVA. Send a message today!
