Hello Friend -- Did you hear the good news? Clark County School District Superintendent Dr. Jesus Jara is finally leaving, BUT, before he goes he wants a bag. We think: good riddance, donβt let the door hit you on the way out! However, there is no way he should be paid out of his contract, when his poor leadership has squandered money left and right β as we said in 2021 when he was fired the first time. From pointless recruitment trips to Oahu and Miami, to his taxpayer-funded Peloton, Jara has already misused funds that should have been put towards raising teacherβs salaries, providing valuable resources for students like hiring nurses and counselors, school lunches, investing in English Language Learners, or providing new learning tools to students. Jaraβs time as superintendent and his efforts to hoard power is the reason our school board is so dysfunctional and fractured. Now, in just under a week, on February 7th, the school board will consider his resignation. Join our partners at No Racism in Schools #1865 the day before as they deep dive into what this means with former CCSD Board Trustee Danielle Ford, and UNLV Law Professor Sylvia Lazos, more info here. Also, take a quick action now and sign onto this petition and demand a superintendent search, not just a Jara crony. Quick appointments without an open process betray the countyβs commitment to racial equity, and is not an equal opportunity for qualified candidates. Public education is worth saving, our students are worth fighting for. Take action today, because today is the beginning of taking our school board back. In Solidarity, Hector Fong Jr. Communications Director & CCSD graduate |
