We need YOU to stand up for over one million acres of land in Northern Nevada.
Representative Mark Amodei is trying to expand the Fallon Naval Air Base by one million acres. Approximately 350,000 acres will be used for bomb testing on sensitive desert land, negatively impacting the nearby communities, water, and animals who reside there. This amendment would also force the government to authorize Churchill County’s Dixie Valley Water Project, a proposal to pump 16.5 billion gallons of water per year from precious desert aquifers in Dixie Valley, piping it to Fallon to feed growth enabled by this bill.
This is the largest land grab of its kind in recent history. We cannot stop it alone. This proposed amendment would also open up large swaths of public land in Douglas, Pershing, Lander, and Churchill counties for development. When public land is made private, the laws that might protect that land no longer apply. Mining companies and developers face few regulations when lands like these are made private, causing irreparable damage to the land and the surrounding communities who live there. Once this land is made private, we might never get it back.
Tell your representatives that you do not support public land and water being used for bombing, development, and mining.
